Alma ninth graders roll

Alma Schools 

Alma junior high volleyball coach Whitney Adams’ squad improved to 3-0 in conference with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Farmington last week. 

Ryleigh Floyd and Ellyse Wright paced the winners (10-1) with five kills. Floyd had seven digs and one ace, and Wright assisted on a block. 

Camryn Waters had nine digs and three assists for the winners, while Jaeli Morris finished with four aces, four digs, one block assist, and one kill. Mallory Taylor had seven digs, three assists, and one ace, and Chloe Kovalck had four digs, two kills, one assist, and one block assist. 

Also for Alma, Bentley Vaughn led the way with a 2.25 average on 12 serve-receiver attempts, along with three digs and two assists. 

Olivia Whipple had two digs, one assist, one ace, one kill, and a block assist. Madie House finished with two digs and one kill. 

Football 

Nate Risley threw for 191 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Airedales’ eighth-grade football team to a 36-28 win over Siloam Springs. 

Trevor Hoover added 113 yards rushing, including a 56-yard touchdown run. David Atherton caught three passes for 143 yards and a pair of touchdowns. 

Billy Burden caught two passes for 48 yards and a TD. 

Hoover helped clinch the victory with a 73-yard kickoff return for a touchdown at the 6:32 mark of the fourth quarter. 

Defensively, Tyler Neighbors and Konner Gryner recovered fumbles for the winners. Granger Brasuell had two pass breakups. Hoover and Anthony Nelson also led the winners with two tackles. 

Golf 

Southside’s boys golf team defeated Alma by one stroke Thursday at Eagle Crest golf course. 

Chase Wood and Grady Farmer led Alma with matching 77s. Miles Kendrick shot an 80, and Piercen Howell and Carson Curd shot an 85. Jack Taylor shot an 86, and Parker Morland shot a 97. 

Alma will compete in a two-day pre-conference warmup next week at Bella Vista.
