Schlegel second in 300 hurdles at Fort Smith McDonald Relays, Alma JH strong at the conference meet

The Airedales’ senior high track team competed at the Fort Smith McDonald Relays on Thursday.  

Sophomore Sam Schlegel was second in the 300 intermediate hurdles with a time of 41.12. He was seventh in the 110 hurdles. 

Teammate John Crump was fourth in the 110 hurdles. Jackson Mitchell placed third (47-0 ½) in the shot put. Mitchell was eighth in the discus. 

The Airedales’ 800 relay team of Byron Standridge, Mitchell, Aiyden Parker, and Landon Morris placed sixth in their respective event. 

Alma will host the 5A-West conference meet Thursday. 

The Airedales’ junior high team competed in the conference meet this week. Titus Benson took first place in the 110 hurdles (17.02). He also won the pole vault event with a leap of 9-6. 

Dylan Jackson and Titus Benson placed first (35.04) and third (46.01) in the 300 intermediate hurdles. Hamir Thibodeaux was fourth. 

Brycen Lester was third (18.39) in the 110 hurdles. Thibodeaux finished sixth. 

Jackson won the 200 meters (24.57). Izaac Plourde was fourth. Jackson was fourth and Dallas Perkins seventh in the 100 meters. 

Alma’s 400 relay team (Jackson, Plourde, Perkins, and Trevor Hoover) took first with a time of 47.41. 

Alma’s 1600 relay team (David Atherton, Grady Farmer, Daniel Rodriguez, and Hamir Thibodeaux finished third (4:02.50). 

Alma’s Josiah Stallings, Malachi Houck, Koda Hollander, and Derek Kohl finished fifth in the 3,200 relay. The foursome of Nate Risley, Titus Benson, Lester, and Thibodeaux finished fifth in the 800 relay event. 

Also for Alma, Boaz Benson was second (42-4) in the shot put. 

The Lady Airedales’ Kadee Wise was second (18.05) in the 100 relays. Olivia Whipple finished fifth in the 100 and fifth in the 400. 

Ryleigh Floyd was fifth in the 100 hurdles and seventh in the 300. 

Jaeli Morris finished fourth in the shot put and fifth in the discus. Julia McAlister placed fifth in the shot put and Makylie Lewis was sixth in the discus. 

Alma’s Sadie Goodnoh, Ryleigh Floyd, Bentley Vaughn, and Olivia Whipple took second (54.66) in the 400 relay. 

Faith McCasland, Malory Holcombe, Kadee Wise, and Aybrie Price finished fifth in the 1600 relay event. 

Morris, Whipplie, Goodnoh, and Vaughn finished fifth in the 800 relay, and Sophia Kimes, Zoey Kangas, Raylay Fryar, and Price were sixth in the 3200 relay. 

SOFTBALL 

The Alma Lady Airedales split a 5A-West doubleheader with Greenbrier this week. 

Julia Nutt drove in five runs with a double and two singles during a 13-10 win in the opener, helping the Lady Airedales snap a two-year conference skid. Nutt had four hits to lead the offensive attack. 

The Lady Panthers (15-6, 9-1) entered the game with a perfect 8-0 league mark. 

Along with Nutt, Annie Davis, Jada Wallis, and Peyton Morris had multi-hit games. Izabella Plourde drove in two runs during a seven-run fifth. Cali Frazier also delivered an RBI single in the seventh. 

Mackenzie Gwinn pitched four innings for the victory. 

The Lady Airedales (3-17, 1-9) lost the second game, 15-5. Wallis had three hits in the second game. 

Brooklyn Neighbors pitched well in the loss, allowing nine runs (four earned) in 5 ⅓ innings. The game was tied at 5-5 in the fifth inning. 

BASEBALL

The Alma Airedales dropped a 5A-West doubleheader at Greenbrier this week. Cash Wilson was the losing pitcher in the first game, a 5-0 setback. 

Eli Risley was on the short end of a 4-1 loss in the second game. Easton Daily drove in the Airedales’ lone run with an RBI double. Avery Bowerman and Camden Curd also hit safely.

The Airedales’ junior varsity team split with Van Buren Thursday at the Airedale Diamond, dropping the first game, 11-4, and taking the nightcap, 10-7. 

Sammy Moore won in relief in the second game, with Cade Moore picking up the save. 

Landon Taylor took the loss in the opener, allowing five runs (one earned) in 2 ⅔ innings.
