Airedale junior high sweeps Harrison basketball squads
Alma (9th) 40, Van Buren 10
GIRLS - Anna Swarnes set the tone early with four first-quarter points and finished with a team-high nine to pace Alma’s ninth-grade girl's basketball team to a 40-10 blowout of Harrison Monday at Crabtree Gym.
All eight of Alma’s seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade teams defeated the Goblins.
Along with Swarnes, Olivia Hughes and Lauren Settle scored eight points each for the winners (14-3, 5-1). Madie House and Faith Sartor had four points each.
Maddi Dunn and Jaeda Cahoon finished with three and two points, respectively.
Alma (9th) 45, Harrison 37
BOYS - Luke Stogsdill converted nine-of-12 field goal attempts and Lawson Adams snatched a team-high seven rebounds to pace Alma a 45-37 win over Harrison Monday - the team’s sixth conference victory without a loss.
Alma (16-2, 6-0) trailed 18-13 midway through the second quarter and 20-17 at the half.
But, sparked by Stogsdill’s 15 second-half points, Alma opened the second half with four straight buckets and never trailed again.
Stogsdill had 24 points and Carson Curd added 10 points, three assists, and two steals. Adams and Landon Taylor had three points each, and Hudson Loughridge, Sammy Moore, and Chase Wood added two points each.
The Airedales host Farmington on Wednesday.
Alma (8th) 34, Harrison 26
BOYS - Carson Hamilton scored eight of his team-high 15 points in the first quarter and Alma’s eighth-grade boys team, after building an early 14-2 lead, rolled to a 34-26 victory Monday in Harrison
Brennan Gwinn hit three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the winners. Jack Taylor and Barron Daily added three points each.
Alma (7th) 24, Harrison 20
BOYS - David Athernton scored five of his team-high 14 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Alma’s seventh-grade boy's basketball team to a 24-20 victory over Harrison.
Titus Benson had six points and Jake Johnson added a key layup in the final minute of play for the winners. Nate Risley and Jaxon Loyd had one point each.
Alma (7th) 26, Harrison 15
GIRLS - Collins Driscoll scored 14 points and Alma’s seventh grade ‘Green’ team defeated Harrison Monday, 26-15.
Sonnie Tally and Rylee Keith had five and three points, respectively. Alma’s Cydney Hopper and Violet Watkins finished with two points each.
Alma’s ‘Gold’ team earned a 6-3 victory. Sadie Goodnoh, Khloe Brasher, and Happy Wilson had two points each.
Alma (8th) 44, Harrison 18
GIRLS - Jaeli Morris and Ellyse Wright combined for 21 points to power coach Hailey Ostrander’s eighth-grade Lady Airedale basketball team to a 44-18 win over Harrison.
Morris led Alma with 11 points. Mallory Taylor, Madie House, and Haven Baxter added seven points each. Khloe Dunn added two points.
