Defense wins championships.
It sure came up big for the Alma Lady Airedales in Tuesday’s 40-22 win over Fort Smith Southside.
Up just 6-4 after one quarter, the Lady Airedales took control of the game by reeling off 11 straight points during a decisive second-quarter run, erasing a 7-6 deficit and building a 20-9 halftime lead.
The Lady Airedales led by as many as 22 points in the second half.
Jordan Gramlich scored 14 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in just 25 minutes of playing time as the Lady Airedales won their second straight game and fifth overall.
The Lady Airedales (5-6) travel to County Line Friday. They’ll conclude nonconference play on Dec. 19 at Cabot.
In addition to Gramlich’s big game, Makinley McCartt and Daimya Parker added nine points for the winners. Kylie Poole and Lilly Sisemore added five and three points, respectively.
“It’s great to get a win at home, especially after a hard weekend (Sequoyah-Tahlequah Tournament),” McCartt said. “It’s great to come back with the effort we had and playing as a team. We’re going to keep the momentum going and keep moving.”
Alma opens 5A-West play on Jan. 5 at Harrison.
