Alma JH volleyball nabs No. 1 seed, closing in on 20 wins

The Alma Lady Airedales’ junior high volleyball team wrapped up the No. 1 seed heading into this weekend’s conference tournament.
Alma will host the event on Saturday.
The Lady Airedales (19-3, 8-0) defeated Van Buren Monday night behind the stellar play of Matilyn Dunn, Emberly Kimes, and Bailee Oliver.
Oliver had 12 digs, three aces, and a pair of assists. She also averaged 1.75 on serve-receive. Kimes led the way with 10 kills and added a career-high three block assists, and one dig in the victory.
Dunn had 15 assists, eight digs, and an ace. Anna Swarnes finished with six kills and five aces.
Also for Alma, Isabella Peters had seven digs, three kills, two aces, and a block assist. Jaslyn Boone added five assists, three digs, two aces, and a pair of kills. Peyton Morris finished with two kills, one solo block, and a block assist. Jaeda Cahoon had two kills, two digs, an ace, and one assist. Julia McAlister assed on a block.
The Lady Airedales defeated Harrison last week behind the steady play of Kimes (five kills, one solo block, and a dig), Boone (three kills, five assists, and eight digs), and Peters’ seven kills and seven digs. Peters also averaged 1.75 on 12 serve-receiver attempts.
Oliver added 16 digs, eight aces, and three assists. Dunn finished with eight assists, five digs, and two aces. Swarnes added 10 digs, one assist, one kill, and a solo block.
Also for Alma, McAlister and Morris had one kill and one dig apiece, and Cahoon added three digs and an ace.
