It’s that time of year — time to celebrate our amazing educators and staff! Last Friday, Alma Primary School kicked off the celebrations by honoring two incredible individuals: Janet Camden – Classified Employee of the Year and Amanda Shores – Teacher of the Year. It’s National Assistant Principals Week! This week, we’re celebrating the incredible assistant principals who help keep Alma School District running strong. Over spring break, a group of 29 travelers, including seven Alma students and one Alma alum, embarked on an unforgettable 10-day journey through Italy. Their adventure took them to some of the country’s most iconic destinations, including Venice, Verona, Florence, Rome, Pompeii, and Capri. From exploring historic landmarks to experiencing Italian culture firsthand, it was a spring break filled with incredible memories! Check out some highlights from their trip below.







Alma High School senior Makayla Burger has been awarded the Remarkable Futures Scholarship from Chick-fil-A, earning $2,500 to apply toward the school of her choice. Makayla, an employee at the Chick-fil-A in Van Buren, was recognized for her dedication and hard work through the nationwide scholarship program. The award was presented by Brittany Cook, operator of the Van Buren Chick-fil-A, along with a special appearance from the Chick-fil-A Cow. Congratulations to Makayla on this well-deserved achievement!

Today, students and teachers across the district came together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. At Alma Primary School, General Education and Special Education teachers, along with their students, wore bright and mismatched socks to raise awareness and promote inclusion. This fun tradition serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing differences and supporting each other.


It’s SLIME time! Alma Primary School students enjoyed an epic sliming showdown today! To support new PE equipment, they cast their votes with cash and coins, choosing which staff member would take the plunge. Their generosity paid off — raising an impressive $3,700! A huge shoutout to Coach Jones, Mrs. Peppas, and Mrs. Cahoon for being great sports. What an exciting way to start spring break!

The Airedale Olympics was a success once again at Alma Primary School! Coach Jones put together an action-packed day filled with exciting indoor and outdoor activities, allowing students to showcase their skills and teamwork. Students participated in a variety of station-style challenges, promoting collaboration and friendly competition. Parents were invited to watch and encourage their little athletes, while the dedicated Alma High School NJROTC crew helped ensure the event ran smoothly. It was a fantastic day full of energy and excitement. Great job, little Airedales!

This week, Mrs. Ikenberry's students gained essential life-saving skills with hands-on training from the American Red Cross! They learned how to handle minor injuries, head injuries, and severe bleeding requiring tourniquets, as well as CPR, AED use, choking, strokes, heart attacks, and drug overdoses. Through real-life simulations, they built confidence in responding to emergencies.

Alma High School Color Guard Earns 2nd Place, Prepares for State Championships
The Alma High School Color Guard recently achieved an impressive 2nd place finish in their class at the Arkansas Marching Arts Association contest, held at Charles B. Dyer Arena on Saturday. Their performance, "The Monster You Created," captivated the audience and judges alike. Next, the team will compete in the Arkansas Marching Arts Association State Championships this Friday, March 21, at Lake Hamilton High School. We wish them the best of luck as they showcase their talent on the state stage! A special thank you to Potts Shotts for capturing incredible moments from the competition.


Today, Alma High School had the privilege of welcoming U.S. Congressman Steve Womack to campus! He toured our state-of-the-art facilities, met with Alma Agricultural Education & FFA Chapter students, and engaged in insightful discussions about the future of agriculture.
Students asked thoughtful questions, shared their passion, and showcased the incredible opportunities at Alma. Congressman Womack emphasized the importance of agricultural education and even presented students with challenge coins as a token of appreciation.
A truly inspiring visit that reinforced the vital role of agriculture in our community and beyond!

Mr. Merritt's AP Physics 1 class at Alma High School recently had a hands-on lesson at the Skokos Performing Arts Center-Alma! In collaboration with Mr. Sellers and Mr. Thomas, students spent a class period learning how to safely operate the rigging, focusing on pulleys and how they provide mechanical advantage and change force direction. The class explored how technical theater and physics are connected and saw how the pulley concepts they study in class are applied in real-world engineering.

Alma High School had an outstanding day at CPA last Thursday, earning top marks across the board! All AHS Choirs received superior ratings in both stage performance and the sight-reading room, achieving a clean sweep of straight 1’s. As a result of their exceptional performances, the Chamber, Honors, and Concert Choirs have qualified to advance to the State CPA in April! We are incredibly proud of our talented students and their hard work.


On March 12, the Alma Middle School Choir competed at the Choral Performance Assessment (CPA) in Van Buren, earning Superior ratings and bringing home a plaque! This event serves as both a state assessment and a competition against schools from across the region, including tough 7A opponents. On Tuesday, March 11th, 28 of our students attended the Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day at Peak Innovation Center! This hands-on experience connected students with top employers and training providers in high-demand technical careers. With 23 school districts and 40+ employers in attendance, students explored exciting career paths, participated in industry simulations, and even secured job offers before graduation! This wasn’t just a career fair — it was a launchpad for students eager to jumpstart their futures! From hands-on skills training to real-world job interviews, our students made the most of this opportunity to network with industry leaders and take the next step toward their careers. These industries are shaping the future, and our students are ready to be a part of it! Our community and staff made Read Across America Week unforgettable by sharing stories as guest readers at Alma Primary School and Alma Intermediate School! Science in Action at Alma Middle School! Ms. Dooley’s enrichment students had a sweet time making homemade ice cream while learning about physical and chemical changes! From freezing the mixture to watching ingredients react, this hands-on activity made science cool and delicious!
