Airedales dominate Bulldogs

The Alma Airedales’ boys soccer team notched a 5-3 win over Greenwood Tuesday for its first 5A-West victory since April 27, 2022.
Alma (2-2-1, 1-2) travels to Harrison Thursday.
The Airedales’ victory snapped a 33-game non-winning streak in conference play. The competitive Airedales have held their own this season, being outscored 11-8.
They lost earlier to defending state champion Russellville 6-0. Last season, Alma was outscored 26-2 in its first three conference matches, compared to 11-6 in the first three matches this season.
Alma jumped ahead, 1-0, on freshman Hamir Thibodaux’s goal in the 23rd minute. Marco Canales, with an assist from Isaac Wald, scored to make it 2-0 in the 27th minute.
Jay Patel’s goal in the 51st minute snapped a 2-2 tie. Seth Canales assisted.
Lukas Wald’s penalty kick in the 64th minute was the game-winner. Elliot Resinos scored to make it 5-3 in the 67th minute.
Alma goalie Lukas Todd finished with 17 saves.
Greenwood 3, Alma 2
GIRLS — The Lady Airedales dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 decision to Greenwood Tuesday in 5A-West play.
Alma took a 1-0 lead on freshman Jasmine Martin’s first-half goal.
Down 2-1 at the half, the Lady Airedales’ Juliet Hargis tied the game with a goal early in the second half. Greenwood (3-3, 2-1) snapped a late tie with a go-ahead goal in the 87th minute.
Alma freshman keeper Kali Wasson had nine saves.
The Lady Airedales travel to Harrison (7-0, 4-0) Thursday.
Baseball
The Alma Airedales baseball team dropped a 2-1 decision to Greenwood in 5A-West play Tuesday.
The game remained scoreless until the seventh when Greenwood pushed across two runs on the strength of a wild pitch and throwing error. Cash Wilson was the tough-luck loser for the Airedales (3-6, 0-2), striking out eight, walking six, and allowing three hits.
Alma travels to Huntsville on Thursday.
Greenwood left-hander Aaron Taylor stymied the Airedales to just hits. Wilson, Carson Curd, and Camden Curd hit safely for the Airedales.
In the seventh, Sammy Moore scored the Airedales’ lone run on a two-out error.
Softball
The Lady Airedales’ softball team suffered a 15-0 loss to Greenwood in 5A-West play Thursday.
Harper Jernigan took the loss for Alma, allowing seven runs (five earned) in three innings. She allowed six hits, walked two, and struck out one.
Brooklyn Neighbors was 1-for-2 for the Airedales.
