Brogan, Lady Airedales turn tables on Bulldogs

Maggie Brogan had 18 kills and the Alma Lady Airedales rallied for a four-set win over Greenwood in 5A-West play Tuesday. 

Leah Henson had five blocks and four kills and the Lady Airedales, who had dropped the first set, 25-17, came storming back for a 17-25, 25-19, 25-15, 26-24 victory on Greenwood’s home floor. 

“So proud of this team and how they made big plays in big moments,” Alma coach Kim Weaver said. “Such a defining moment for our program.”

Emberly Kimes had 11 kills in the victory, Grace Peters added six kills, three aces, and two blocks and Breella Hughes finished with four kills, three aces, and a pair of blocks. 

Sophomore Matilyn Dunn had 47 assists and digs for the winners (6-7, 1-2). Mabrey Birchfield added 19 digs, and Ashtyn Carmack added seven digs. 

The Lady Airedales travel to Harrison on Thursday and return home this weekend for a tournament. 

Golf 

The Alma Airedales boys' golf team finished fourth in a 16-team tournament this week at Bella Vista.

Chase Wood shot 153 (76-77) during the two-day event. Jack Taylor and Piercen Howell rebounded after a tough first day to shoot 85-80 and 87-80, respectively. Miles Kendrick shot 161 (80-81), and Grady Farmer fired final round 92 following an 81. 

The Airedales have a conference match next Tuesday.
