Alma JH wins tournament

Alma junior high volleyball coach Whitney Adams needed her players to pull through in the clutch Saturday. 

They responded in a big way. 

Emberly Kimes had 42 kills and hit .380 for the day as the Lady Airedales went 3-0 in pool play and then routed Shiloh Christian in bracket play (25-10, 25-14) before earning hard-fought wins over Hackett (22-25, 25-21, 15-6) and Van Buren 25-17, 26-24 in the final of the Alma Junior High Tournament. 

The Lady Airedales (13-1) resume conference play this week. The Lady Airedales defeated Charleston, Mt. St. Mary’s, and Hackett in pool play. 

In addition to her 42 kills, Kimes added two blocks and two assists. Bailee Oliver also played well for the winners, gathering 66 digs, dishing out 13 assists, and finishing with 10 aces. She had 48 serve-receive attempts and had one kill. 

Jaslyn Boone and Jaeda Cahoon added 17 and 11 aces, respectively. Cahoon had 18 kills and Boone added 36 assists and 20 digs. Matilyn Dunn had 54 assists, 27 digs, seven aces, and one kill. 

Anna Swarnes finished the day with 15 kills, 33 digs, seven aces, and one block assist; Isabella Peters had 28 digs, eight kills, and six aces for the day. 

Peyton Morris and Julia McAlister finished with 12 and nine kills, respectively. McAlister had 10 digs and an assist, and Morris added two blocks, two assists, and four digs. 

Camryn Waters played in five matches and had five digs and eight serve-receive attempts. Hughes added four kills in five matches.
