Airedale golfers finish fifth

Alma Schools 

The Alma Airedales golf team finished fifth at the 5A-West conference meet Tuesday in Mountain Home. 

Freshman Chase Wood led the Airedales with an 86. Grady Farmer and Miles Kendrick shot 90 and 91, respectively. 

Piercen Howell had a 103, and Parker Morland shot 109. 

Mountain Home won the event by four strokes over Harrison. Alma and Greenbrier tied for fifth. 

Tennis  

The Alma Airedales’ tennis team competed at Russellville on Tuesday. 

The school’s No. 1 doubles team of Marti Lineberry and Kenadie Farris defeated Russellville’s Abby Quoss and Morgan Young 8-5. The Alma pair dropped an 8-2 decision to Mountain Home in their second match. 

The Alma pair of Kensington Wadkins and Lacey Haughton earned an 8-4 victory over Russellville’s Katie George and Isabella Whittle. 

Wadkins and Haughton dropped an 8-1 decision to Mountain Home. 

Alma’s top two boys singles players, Caden Farris, and Kolby Kimmons, dropped a pair of matches to the Cyclones and Bombers. The Airedales’ top doubles team of Jackson McMurray and Joshua Smith dropped a 9-8 decision to the Cyclones’ Jack Ruple and Joe Walchshauser. 

Alma will host Van Buren on Sept. 26. 

Volleyball 

The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a five-set (20-25, 22-25, 25-7, 25-15, 15-9) decision to Greenbrier Tuesday in 5A-West play. 

Sophomores Breella Hughes and Maggie Brogan finished with seven kills apiece, with Brogan adding four blocks. Hughes also had a block 

Senior Zoe Thrift had seven kills and a block. Senior Julia Nutt dished out 30 assists. 

Alma travels to Greenwood on Thursday.
