Wadkins, Haughton sweep, 5A-West foes at ATU meet

Alma Schools 

Kensington Wadkins and Lacey Haughton earned a pair of 5A-West tennis victories Tuesday at Arkansas Tech. 

The Alma duo earned an 8-5 win over Greenbrier's Lizzy Runswick and Avery Miller, 8-5. Wadkins and Haughton also earned an 8-4 win over Harrison's Shawna Venegas and Brinkley Dove. 

The pair has won three straight matches. 

It was also a big day for senior Caden Farris. The Alma No. 1 singles player earned an 8-0 win over Harrison's Landon McKinney. Farris also rolled to an easy 8-2 win over Greenbrier's Cruz Wilcox. 

Alma's No. 2 singles player, Colby Kimmons, split a pair of matches. The Alma senior defeated Harrison's Grant Bennett 8-0 before falling to Greenbrier's Jonah Ashworth, 8-4. 

The Airedales' Marti Lineberry and Kenadie Farris split a pair of matches in doubles play. The team's No. 1 duo outlasted Harrison's Abigail Hicks and Kennedi Campbell, 9-7. 

They dropped an 8-6 decision to Greenbrier's Lily Andrews and Sophie Smithson. 

Alma's top-ranked boys double team of Jackson McMurray and Joshua Smith dropped a pair of 8-5 and 8-2 decisions to Greenbrier and Harrison. Alma's No. 2 tennis squad of Layne Goins and Levi Dobbs lost a pair of matches to the Panthers and Goblins by a count of 8-3 and 8-4, respectively. 

The Airedales' Nora Medlock, Charlotte Koller, and Alexis Stowe dropped their singles matches on Tuesday. 

JV Football 

The Airedales’ junior varsity team lost to Greenwood on Monday. 

Quarterback Michael Taylor was 11-for-21 for 168 yards and two touchdowns for the Airedales. Samuel Schlegel caught a 75-yard TD and Cash Farris caught two passes for 38 yards and a score. 

Jacob Dollard led the Airedales with 29 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Taylor had seven rushing attempts for 20 yards. 

Trenton Kilgore caught four passes for 15 yards. He also led the defense with five tackles. Talan Harless and Owen McCoy each caught a pass for 18 and 15 yards, respectively. 

Defensively, Jackson Rust and Joey Lyn had four tackles Monday. Schlegel added two interceptions, and Camden Curd, Noah Ingle, and Tim Plourde had three tackles each. Huston Davis added two stops. 

Volleyball 

The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a nonconference decision to Hackett Monday. 

Sophomore Maggie Brogan added to her team lead for kills with five. She also added three aces. 

Alma senior Julia Nutt contributed 10 assists.
