Nutt-led Lady Airedales throttle Siloam Springs

The Alma Lady Airedales have had some big games at Siloam Springs over the years.

Tuesday proved to be no exception.

Sophomore MacKenzie Gwinn pitched Alma to a pair of blowout victories as the Airedales swept a 5A-West doubleheader from the Lady Panthers. Makinzie Erwin had three hits and scored three times in Alma’s 17-0 win in the first game.

Junior Julia Nutt set a school record with 12 RBIs during the doubleheader sweeps, including seven RBIs during a 16-1 blowout in Game 2.

Freshman Annabelle Davis scored four times as the Airedales took the second game. Davis, who had three hits on the day, scored three times in the first game as well.

Strong pitching lifts Fry, Alma

The Alma Airedales are a long way from clinching their first playoff berth in six years.

But they’re getting closer.

Noah Likens and Cash Wilson allowed just one run and the Airedales’ Easton Daily, Camden Curd, and Nathan Machen had clutch two-out hits as Alma won a pair of 5A-West games at Siloam Springs Tuesday.

Likens struck out three and pitched around a couple of late miscues as the Airedales won the opener, 5-1. Likens has won three games in two weeks.

Wilson was even better in the nightcap, fanning 11 while earning his first-career complete game and 5A-West victory. The right-hander allowed four hits and walked three.

Curd’s RBI double put the Airedales ahead, 2-0, in the opener. Daily added an RBI single to make it 3-0, and Machen’s run-scoring single gave the Airedales a 4-0 lead.

Branson Brogan hit a solo homer in the seventh, the first of his career.

Daily’s RBI double snapped a scoreless tie in the nightcap. Machen’s two-out, RBI single gave the Airedales a 2-0 lead in the sixth.
