Teagan Thrasher may not be in the record books. Not yet, anyway.

The senior transfer scored a school-record four goals as the Lady Airedales opened the 2023 season with an 8-0 win over the Heavener Lady Wolves. Thrasher’s hot start wasn’t the only newcomer to open with a bang.

Alyssa Thomas held the previous mark of three goals in a game.

Senior keeper Rachel James pitched a shutout in her first game.

“We had a new keeper, straight from volleyball, who actually hasn't really even practiced with us yet, who came in today and had no shots on goal,” Alma coach Macy Ayulo said. “Almost every one of our girls got in, and I think that’s going to be encouraging going into the game tomorrow.”

The Lady Airedales face Sallisaw Tuesday and travel to Sylvan Hills Thursday.

Thrasher put Alma ahead, 1-0, in the 23rd minute with an assist from Natalie Skinner. Thrasher scored again seven minutes later to make it 2-0.

Lexi Juliun found the back of the net in the 32nd minute, and Izabel Benson assisted Presli Taylor in the 39th minute. Alma took 23 shots to Heavener’s two.

“It’s a great start to our season, especially coming from such a tough year last year,” Ayulo said. “The girls are very excited.”

Thrasher found the net in the 50th minute, and two minutes later Taylor assisted Abbi Cater to make it 6-0.

Thrasher’s fourth goal came in the 68th minute, with an assist from Yoseline Gonzalez.

Senior Olivia Reed scored the final goal in the 72nd minute.

Heavener 4, Alma 1

BOYS - the Alma Airedales’ boys team spotted Heavener a quick 3-0 lead and couldn’t recover.

Despite pitching a second-half shutout, the Airedales’ boys team suffered a 4-1 defeat. Seth Canales accounted for Alma’s lone goal.
