Junior Lady Airedales survive

 

The Alma junior Lady Airedales survived a big first-half deficit Monday at Greenwood. 

 

Down 10 at the half, Alma battled back for a 33-32 victory when Anna Swarnes hit a jumper with 13.9 seconds left to help the Lady Airedales win their conference opener. 

 

Sarah Sartor, who fed a wide-open Swarnes for the game-winner, led Alma (11-0) with 12 points. Swarnes finished with 10. 

 

Also for coach Angela Rushing’s team, Breella Hughes and Emberly Kimes finished with four points apiece, and Olivia Hughes added three.

 

Alma will host Harrison Thursday.  

 

Alma 54, Greenwood 25 

 

BOYS — Alma’s eighth-grade boys team saved their best effort of the year for the Greenwood Bulldogs. 

 

The inside duo of Luke Stogsdill and Cade Moore combined for 24 points and 26 rebounds to help Alma dispose of the Bulldogs, 54-25. Alma led 15-3 after one quarter and never let up. 

 

Cade Moore had 13 points and 14 boards for the winners. Sammy Moore added 10 points, and Hudson Loughridge and Lawson Adams finished with six and five points, respectively. 

 

Carson Curd had three points and three assists. Dylan Jackson, Landon Taylor, and Julian Spears added two points apiece. Taylor and Drake Ciampoli had three rebounds each. 

 

The Airedales’ Daniel Rodriguez added two boards and an assist. 

 

Alma 7th (Green) 33, Greenwood 13    

 

GIRLS — Madie House almost outscored Greenwood by herself on Monday. 

 

The Alma seventh grader scored 13 points and Jaeli Morris added six to pace the Lady Airedales’ seventh-grade Green team to a 33-13 win over the Lady Bulldogs. 

 

Khloe Dunn and Ellyse Wright had four points each, and Haven Baxter, Grayce Routt, and Mallory Taylor finished with two each. 

 

Alma 7th (Gold) 33, Greenwood 13    

 

GIRLS — Khloe Dunn scored 10 points and teammates Camryn Waters and Kadee Wise added six apiece to power the Lady Airedales’ seventh-grade Gold team to a 27-8 win over Greenwood. 

 

The Lady Airedales got three points from Juliet Hargis and two from Grace Kannett. 

 

Greenwood 45, Alma 39 

 

BOYS — Greenwood’s seventh-grade team escaped Crabtree Gym with a 45-39 victory on Monday. 

 

Brody Johnson and Jack Taylor scored 13 points apiece. Johnson’s 3-pointer pulled Alma with 42-39 late in the fourth. 

 

The Airedales’ Carson Hamilton finished with nine points. 

 

Greenwood 36, Alma 21   

 

GIRLS — Alma dropped a 36-21 decision in eighth-grade girls action Monday. 

 

Lauren Settles led Alma with nine points. Jaeda Cahoon, Kaitlyn Middleton, and Ruthy Dunaway finished with four points apiece.  

 

Greenwood 51, Alma 19  

 

BOYS — Greenwood started strong and rolled to a 51-19 win over the Alma Airedales on Monday. 

 

Sam Schlegel and Easton Daily led Alma with six and five points, respectively. 

 

The Alma junior boys, and seventh and the eighth-grade boys team travel to Harrison on Thursday.
