Alma senior MaKinzie Erwin signed a letter of intent with the University of the Ozarks softball team on Wednesday.

“I’m really grateful for the opportunity I have to further my academic and athletic career at the next level,” Erwin said. “I know not everybody gets to, so I’m grateful.”

Erwin, the team’s starting center fielder, batted .294 with 29 hits and 22 runs scored during the 2022 season.

Erwin said she’s looking forward to playing for Ozarks coach Denise Godwin.

“I went to a couple of camps and the coach, the way she coached really stuck out to me,” Erwin said. “How she was being so helpful really stuck out with me. And the campus … the campus is amazing.”

Erwin said she spoke with Alma seventh grade girls basketball coach Hailey Ostrander about the school as well. Ostrander played four seasons for the Lady Eagles.

“She only had the coach that I will have for one year but that she really liked her,” Erwin said. “I’ve talked to her about that.”
