Kade Fagan and Brayden Peppas combined for one point Monday night at Crabtree Gym. But the two Alma ninth graders did a couple of the little things that lifted the team to a 48-47 win over Greenbrier in junior high boys action. 

 

Fagan sank a go-ahead free throw, his only point of the game, to break the tie, and Peppas took two key defensive charges in the final minutes to preserve the victory. 

 

Sam Schlegel had 21 points and five steals for the Airedales. Jeremiah Schlegel added 11 points and six assists. 

 

Easton Daily and Braden Kimes finished with seven and six points, respectively, and Owen McCoy added two points. 

 

Alma 40, Greenbrier 20 

 

GIRLS - Faith Sartor hit a buzzer-beating bucket to end the first half and the Lady Airedales’ ninth-grade team improved to 8-0 with a 40-20 win over Greenbrier Monday at Crabtree Gym. 

 

Sartor led Alma with 16 points. Embery Kimes and Anna Swarnes finished with nine and seven points, respectively. 

 

Izabel Benson had five points, and Breella Hughes and Olivia Hughes finished with two and one points, respectively. 

 

Greenbrier 47, Alma 42 

 

BOYS - Greenbrier made all 10 of its fourth-quarter free throw attempts and finished 16-of-21 from the line while coming from behind to beat Alma Monday, 47-42. 

 

The Airedales’ Luke Stogsdill scored 11 of his 18 points in the final half. Lawson Adams added six points, and Hudson Loughridge and Landon Taylor finished with five points each. 

 

Carson Curd and Sammy Moore had three points apiece, and Boaz Benson had two points. 

 

The Airedales took a 40-39 lead on Taylor’s 3-pointer, but the Panthers held Alma to just one basket in the final four minutes. 

 

Greenbrier 24, Alma 19 

 

GIRLS - The Lady Panthers’ eighth-grade girls team erased an early 12-2 deficit while limiting Alma to just two second-half field goals. 

 

Laura Settle led Alma by 14 points. Matilyn Dunn and Ruthy Dunaway finished with three and two points, respectively.
