Alma led Mountain Home in the first two sets of Thursday’s 5A-West finale at Charles B. Dyer Arena.

Like other matches this season, however, the Lady Airedales were unable to hold on.

Alma ended its 2022 volleyball season with a 25-21, 25-22, 25-21 loss to the Lady Bombers on Senior Night.

“Honestly, I don’t know what it’s going to feel like to come into the gym and see a group of girls (seniors) that doesn’t include them,” Alma coach Kim Weaver said. “Just like they’ve left a legacy for those underclassmen, they’ve left that legacy for me, too.

“I feel like I have a responsibility to carry on everything they’ve left behind.”

Alma (3-19, 1-13) led Mountain Home (14-7, 10-4) almost halfway through the first set, building a 10-4 lead before the Lady Bombers answered with a 12-2 burst to flip the momentum. Alma led 18-15 and 22-20 in the second game as well.

“They never quit,” Weaver said. “There’s a lot of things you can, like mismanagement of different moments, some mistakes we make in key opportunities, but they never quit. If that is something they take with them into the next chapter of their lives, then that’s something to be proud of.”

Senior Jenna Williams had three early kills and finished with a team-high 12 kills for the Lady Airedales.

Mia Nichols and Rachel James finished with seven and five kills, respectively.

Sophomore Mabrey Birchfield had a team-high 18 digs. James and Julia Nutt finished with 13 assists, respectively.
