9/22/22

The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a 25-22, 25-11, 24-26, 25-16 decision to Greenbrier in 5A-West play.

Alma (1-5 in league play) led at some point in all four games.

Jenna Williams played well for the winners with 14 kills and 15 digs. Mia Nichols finished with six kills.

Senior Rachel James led with 19 assists. Mabrey Birchfield and Miranda Gibson had nine digs apiece.

Alma was within one (22-21) in the opening set. They nearly let the third game get away, too, after falling behind 24-23.

“We were down 24-to-23 in the third set, and they had the serve and we had to call a timeout and were able to fight back and win that set, I think that’s just guts,” Alma coach Kim Weaver said. “Our skill is improving, but our mentality has kind of lagged behind. I think there, we kind of saw some execution meet some guts and some confidence. That’s something we can really build on.”

Alma will host Greenwood on Thursday.
