The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a hard-fought five-set decision to Vilonia Thursday. 

 

The Lad Eagles won the first two games, 25-18, 25-15. 

 

Alma forced a fourth game with a 25-14 victory. And the Lady Airedales saved their best for the fourth set while erasing two 11-point deficits - 16-5 and 20-9. 

 

After forcing a fifth game with a 25-23 win, the Lady Airedales took their only lead in the fifth game on back-to-back aces from Julia Nutt, the second of which put Alma up 3-2. 

 

But the Lady Eagles, after Alma had rallied to tie it at 7, ran off seven straight points and held on for a 15-9 victory. 

 

Mia Nichols led Alma (3-4-1) with eight kills. Jenna Williams and Samantha Crook had seven kills apiece, and Zoe Thrift and Miranda Gibson had six and three kills, respectively. 

 

Rachel James had 18 assists, and Nutt followed with nine. 

 

The Lady Airedales open 5A-West play Tuesday against Harrison. 

 

Alma 9th grade volleyball 

 

Alma freshman Breella Hughes enjoyed a big week for coach Whitney Adams and Co. She had 10 kills, three blocks, and five digs in matches against Paris and Gravette. 

 

Earlier in the week, she had five aces and five kills against Pottsville. 

 

Also for the Lady Airedales, Chloe Gregory had seven digs, four assists, and a kill against Pottsville this week. Against Gravette, she had three aces, three assists, a pair of kills, and one block. 

 

Gregory had six assists, two digs, one block, three aces, and four kills against Paris. 

 

Lady Airedale freshman Matilyn Dunn had five aces, eight assists, one kill, and a dig against Gravette. She had seven assists, four digs, and an ace against Paris. 

 

Gregory added five assists against Pottsville. 

 

Alma 9th grade football 

 

The Airedales’ ninth-grade team suffered a 22-7 loss to Siloam Springs Thursday. The game was called after one half because of lightning. 

 

Sam Schlegel passed for 22 yards (3-of-5) and scored the Airedales’ touchdown on a 4-yard run. Tim Plourde had 46 yards rushing on nine carries. 

 

Defensively, Schlegel led the Airedales with three tackles. Boaz Benson and Ethan Her had two stops apiece. 

 

Alma 7th grade football 

 

The Alma seventh grade football team competed with Siloam Springs Thursday. 

 

Quinton Broadway led a balanced running game with 37 yards rushing on six attempts. Barron Daily added 35 yards on six carries, including a touchdown. Dallas Perkins added 30 yards rushing. 

 

Mason Mahar had one reception for 33 yards and a touchdown, and Hudson Sharp caught a pass for 13 yards. 

 

Tucker Workman was 3-for-5 for 33 yards and a touchdown. Brody Baldwin was 2-for-3 for 14 yards passing. 

 

Defensively, Tristan Rhodes had seven tackles to lead the way. Perkins and Trenton Simon had four stops apiece.
